Migration

Moving an agent from Retell AI to Dialgem.

There is no one-click importer. What there is: the agent, phone-number and call shapes use the field names your integration already writes, so most of the work is copying values and running both side by side until you trust it.

Before you start

Check the deal-breakers first. If you rely on a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement or a SOC 2 report from your voice vendor, Dialgem cannot replace Retell today. If your code uses Retell's Python library, you will call Dialgem's REST API directly or move that code to the TypeScript SDK.

Step by step

  • Create a Dialgem account and an API key. You can build and test agents and call them from your browser before connecting any number.
  • List what you have: each agent's prompt or flow, its functions and webhooks, and the phone numbers that answer it.
  • Recreate each agent. Use the console or the API. Field names for the agent, phone-number and call objects match, and the conversation-flow format follows the same wire shape. A field that has no equivalent on the provider you picked is stored and reported as inert, not silently approximated.
  • Check each flow in the console. Run every branch from the test-call button rather than trusting that a copy behaves identically.
  • Connect a number. If you use your own SIP trunk, point it at Dialgem using the SIP trunk guide in the documentation. Otherwise use a Dialgem line.
  • Run both side by side. Send a share of real calls, or an internal number, to Dialgem while Retell stays live. Compare the transcripts and the cost of the same calls.
  • Switch the number only when you are satisfied, and keep the Retell agent available until the first week of calls has gone cleanly.

What does not carry over

Anything that depends on Retell-specific services does not move: its hosted voices that Dialgem does not offer, its Python-based code, and features Dialgem does not have. Voices are chosen per agent from Cartesia, ElevenLabs or self-hosted, and models from Anthropic or OpenAI, so expect to pick the nearest match and listen to it.

Questions

Does Dialgem import a Retell agent automatically?
No. There is no importer today. You recreate the agent using the same field names, which is a copy-and-check job rather than a rewrite.
Can I keep my phone number?
If the number is on a carrier you control and you connect it through a SIP trunk, you can point the trunk at Dialgem. Check with your carrier before you change anything.
What will it cost?
Price your own calls in the pricing calculator. A connected minute is $0.045 to $0.135 depending on the voice, model and line you choose.
